SELMA – A collision involving two tractor trailers and a SUV shut down Interstate 95 in Selma Thursday evening. The accident happened around 6:00pm in the northbound lanes under the US 70 Bridge (Exit 97).
The Selma Fire Department was on I-95 extinguishing a small brush fire beside the interstate when the accident happened.
A white SUV passing by the fire scene was rear ended by a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer was then struck from behind by a second semi.
One person in the SUV was transported to Johnston Health in Smithfield for treatment of minor injuries. Both tractor trailer drivers were evaluated at the scene but were not transported.
The collision caused a diesel fuel leak from one of the trucks. The NC Department of Transportation responded with sand to help contain the leak. A hazardous materials clean up crew also responded to assist with the diesel fuel containment and cleanup.
Northbound traffic on I-95 has reportedly backed up more than 7 miles. Some traffic is being detoured onto the US 70 Exit then back onto the interstate. The interstate is expected to reopen by 10:30pm tonight.
So many wrecks on 95 now more than ever. Some of you need to understand a semi cannot stop if you change lanes right in front of them and then slow down. Some of these truck drivers need to stop being *ssHol*s knowing darn well they will kill someone if they get into a wreck.
