SMITHFIELD – On Tuesday, State Health Plan and Aetna leaders visited with state employees in Johnston County as part of their months-long “road tour” to formally introduce the Plan’s new third-party administrator to members in every reach of North Carolina.

Officials from both sides of the partnership spoke and answered questions from Plan members at Johnston Community College. An Aetna-themed van was stationed at the event, at which attendees could check biometrics like blood pressure and receive flu shots.

“We’re excited to be able to introduce Aetna to members of the State Health Plan in Smithfield and Johnston County,” State Treasurer Dale R. Folwell said. “This tour offers them the opportunity to meet directly with Aetna representatives, who are standing ready to serve our hard-working state employees and teachers.”

Jim Bostian, North Carolina market president for Aetna, said, “We are thrilled to begin serving those who teach, protect and otherwise serve North Carolina. For our North Carolina-based team, this is more than a business opportunity. We have parents, husbands, wives, sisters and brothers who are public servants, and doing right by North Carolina’s state employees is personal for us.”

The road tour will visit all corners of the state through October, with stops in Charlotte, Wilmington, Winston-Salem, Fayetteville and numerous other locations. The tour coincides with the Plan’s 2025 Open Enrollment period, which will be held Sept. 30 through Oct. 25, 2024.

The Plan and Aetna are ready to meet people in person during the tour, online or by telephone. For those unable to come out in person, the Plan will also be offering numerous webinars and Telephone Town Halls containing the same information as in-person events. Altogether, there will be more than 70 virtual and in-person events available to State Health Plan members in the coming months.

A list of tour locations and webinars can be found here. Plan members will start receiving 2025 Open Enrollment information in the mail soon.
