On Saturday, February 8, 2020, Smithfield-Selma High School (SSS) will be holding its annual Cupid’s Craft and Vendor Fair. This event will be held in the SSS Gymnasium from 10 am until 3 pm, and public admission is free.
Shoppers will be able to browse and purchase from over 50 vendors. A large variety of items will be available such as home décor, jewelry, clothes and accessories, beauty products, cooking supplies, decals, and other unique gift items. Shoppers may also purchase $1 raffle tickets for an opportunity to win prizes.
All proceeds obtained through the vendor fees are directly applied towards the airfare of SSS International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) students when they travel to Denmark. This travel is part of SSS’s Denmark Student Exchange Program in which IBDP students stay with host families and learn more about the educational system and culture of Denmark. This partnership has existed for over 10 years with over 300 participating students and teachers.
The craft fair has been the main fundraiser for the exchange program since its inception. SSS students who were part of the program have returned to Denmark after graduation to learn more about Danish culture. Danish students and their teachers also travel to the United States and stay with host families to learn more about American culture.
SSS IB student Anna Makey says, “I went to Denmark last year and it was definitely an experience I’ll never forget. It was super interesting to learn how people the same age as me live their lives. It was so much fun, and now I have friends across the world that I’ll have for a lifetime.”
