Area Resident Swindled Out Of $150,000
SMITHFIELD – A local resident trying to find love recently lost a large sum of money. The 59 year-old victim told police she met a man through a Christian-based online dating website.
After a lengthy correspondence, the man, who claimed he was living overseas, requested money for expenses to move to the United States and began a new life with her.
The woman sent $50,000, and later $100,000, as he requested, to pay for costs to move to Johnston County.
After providing the money, the scammer stopped communicating with the victim.
Only later did she report the incident to authorities. The money could not be recovered.

Is her head so far up her butt that she fell for this??? Really, 59 yo, thinking because it was a Christian site that it was legit. Even the devil can smell a fool. She got what she deserved.
If she has a driver’s license, revoke it now. She’s not capable of making decisions.

If this is who I think it is, she has been told numerous times, for years, by people who love her, that she was being scammed. She wouldn’t listen to anybody but the scammer. Maybe now she’ll get her life straightened out. Sad she had to loose all that money but sometimes lessons are expensive.
How does this keep happening? I did not realize so many people have this kind of money and so carelessly let it go.
I can’t believe someone that has this kind of money can’t make better decisions with it or are as gullible as they are with it.
It’s sad that this happend to another joco citizen. This been going around for some time where is her family wouldnt happen to my parents .
