SMITHFIELD – A man who reportedly sold and delivered drugs to a Smithfield resident who later died has been formally charged.
On October 29, 2022, Smithfield Police Department started an investigation into the suspicious death of a 45 year-old man at a residence on South Sussex Drive. Drug paraphernalia and electronic items were seized from the home.
On March 9, 2023, the NC Medical Examiner’s Office determined the victim died from an accidental overdose of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Search warrants were executed and Douglas Clint Carter, 32, of Dunn, NC, was identified by law enforcement as the person who reportedly sold and delivered the drugs to the victim. Carter had a prior criminal history of selling illegal narcotics.
A warrant was obtained for his arrest for Aggravated Death by Distribution.
On June 6, 2023, the Erwin Police Department served the warrant on Carter at his residence. Carter was held in the Harnett County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond pending a court appearance.

A bond? I guess its different laws for different people huh?? Just convicted someone on these same charges a month or 2 ago lets see if he gets the same fate over 20 years..
One is convicted, one is not yet convinced…
u not getting the big picture here . The other guy didnt get no option of a low bond and im quite sure hes not going to have the same results. Same crime softer punishment ..Keep the same energy you guys had with the last defendent!!!!!!!
