At 14, Jeffrey Schall Reaches Eagle Scout Rank

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – At just 14 years old, Jeffrey Michael Schall has already built a record of service that includes Scouting, the fire service, Civil Air Patrol and support for local veterans.

That service was recognized Sept. 19 when the JOCO CarryOn Detachment 1236 of the Marine Corps League presented Schall with its Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award.

Schall is a member of Boy Scout Troop 360 chartered by Bethel Original Freewill Baptist Church.

Detachment Chaplain Matt Phelps, Past Detachment Commandant Devell Durham and Marine Harry O. Eheart represented the CarryOn Detachment during the ceremony.

The award, signed by Detachment Commandant Lalonzo Chambers, recognizes citizenship, leadership and service to the community.

For Schall, reaching Eagle Scout also continues a family tradition.

He is the son of Michael and Stacey Schall and grandson of Pam Schall. His father and older brother, Logan Schall, also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

A Scouting Journey That Started At Age 5

Jeffrey began Scouting at age 5 as a Lion Cub during the inaugural year of that program.

He advanced through each rank and later earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

His path continued through the COVID-19 shutdown of 2020 and 2021, when many traditional Scout activities were disrupted.

Jeffrey continued working toward his goals during that period and later became a Boy Scout in 2022.

Throughout his years in Troop 360, he has held several leadership positions, including Chaplain Aide and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.

He is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s national honor society.

Jeffrey has also served as an instructor during Cub Weekends, where he helped teach outdoor skills to new Tiger Cubs.

His service through Scouting has included Veterans Day and Memorial Day programs, fundraisers, campouts and community service projects.

He has also provided monthly support to veterans through Johnston County Rally Point.

Service Extends Beyond Scouting

Jeffrey’s involvement in public service does not stop with Troop 360.

He is a member of the Wilson’s Mills Junior Firefighters and serves as a Flight Sergeant with Civil Air Patrol NC143, the Johnston County Composite Squadron.

His long-term goal is to become a firefighter.

The Eagle Scout rank is Scouting’s highest achievement and is earned by only a small percentage of Scouts nationwide.

For Jeffrey, the recognition reflects years of advancement, leadership and community involvement — and continues a family legacy already established by his father and brother.

The JOCO CarryOn Detachment said the Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Award recognizes those same qualities: leadership, citizenship and a willingness to serve others.
