Attempted Armed Burglary Reported In East Smithfield

SMITHFIELD – Police are investigating a reported attempted armed burglary that occurred at a home in East Smithfield.

The incident took place around 10:25 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, in the 700 block of Second Avenue. According to Smithfield Police, a female resident was sitting on her front porch when an unknown male suspect approached her and, at gunpoint, attempted to force her back inside the home.

As they were entering the residence, the suspect was reportedly startled by the woman’s boyfriend, who was already inside the home. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

A police K-9 unit responded but was unable to track the suspect’s location. No injuries were reported.
