August New Housing Starts Increase

Concerns of any possible slowdown in the construction of new houses in Johnston County wasn’t shown in August new housing start numbers just released.

Last month permits were issued for 153 new homes in the county, up 12 percent from 137 in August 2016, according to statistics from the Johnston County Inspections Department.

The average value of a new home being built last month was $193,852 up from $175,801 a year ago.

Last month, permits were issued for 4 new townhomes, 7 doublewide, 8 singlewides and 1 modular home.  Permits were also issued for 7 commercial buildings.

County inspectors passed 4,479 inspections last month and failed 1,037.  The inspections department also collected $217,423.90 in fees.
