Authorities Identify Princeton Shooting Victim

PRINCETON – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office has identified a Princeton man who was shot and killed. William Ronnie Oliver Jr., 47, died during an altercation at his home, at 2701 Progressive Church Road, around 7:25pm Wednesday.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered Joe Mitchell, 73, of Old Smithfield Road. Mitchell was the individual who called 911 reporting the shooting. He told authorities he was in an altercation with Oliver and during the altercation shot the victim.

Deputies located Mr. Oliver deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, in consultation with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office, are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting. No additional information is being released at this time.

  1. So I guess it’s ok to argue with someone on the phone (MAD) then get off the phone and go to their house shoot them in chest and face killing them! Sound like intent to me…premeditated murder! May you R.I.P. Ronnie Oliver!🥹
