Authorities Seek Leads After Failed Vehicle Theft At Car Lot
CLAYTON, N.C. — Johnston County authorities are searching for the suspects responsible for causing more than $30,000 in damage during an attempted overnight vehicle theft at a used car dealership near the Wake County line.
The incident occurred around midnight July 9 at Frontline Motors, located at 13313 Clayton Boulevard.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, suspects attempted to steal a Ram pickup truck and a Jeep Cherokee from the dealership.
Investigators said the attempted theft quickly unraveled. The Jeep Cherokee became stuck in mud before it could be removed from the property. The Ram pickup was driven through two fences, causing extensive property damage, but the suspects abandoned the truck.
Authorities estimated the damage to the fencing at approximately $13,000. Damage to the two vehicles is estimated at an additional $18,000.
No vehicles were successfully stolen.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.
