Authorities: Toxic Vapors Allegedly Led To DWI Arrest In Walmart Parking Lot

JOHNSTON COUNTY — A Willow Spring man was arrested after deputies say he was found unconscious behind the wheel of a running truck in a Walmart parking lot.

Johnston County deputies were called around 11:45 a.m. December 27 to the Walmart at 5141 Veterans Parkway for a welfare check near the garden center.

Deputies reported finding David Andre Gignac, 36, unresponsive in the driver’s seat with the engine running, the vehicle in gear, and his foot on the brake.

Investigators said Gignac had allegedly inhaled fumes from a compressed air duster can, causing his impairment. A blood test was taken as part of the investigation.

Gignac was charged with driving while impaired, inhaling toxic vapors, possession of a toxic vapor substance, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was later released on a $2,500 secured bond.
