The Town of Benson was impacted by straight line thunderstorm winds Sunday afternoon
Town Manager Matt Zapp said power was disrupted for approximately 90 minutes to 380 customers. The outages were caused by downed trees and branches.
A large tree fell across the 700 block of North Lincoln Street and blocked traffic for about an hour. Public works crew responded to clear the debris and reopen the roadway.
Multiple trees were toppled on private property. Although the summer storm was brief, the impact of its damage was quite powerful, Zapp said.
The Benson Police, Fire, Electric, Parks, Waste Water and Public Works departments responded to the incident.
As of 7:45pm, power service has been restored to all but 7 customers who have damage to their individual service lines.
A tree also fell on a vacant mobile classroom unit at Benson Middle School.
No injuries were reported from the fast moving thunderstorms. Photos courtesy Town of Benson Facebook Page
