DUNN – A motorcycle and an SUV collided head on Wednesday morning killing the operator of the two-wheeled vehicle.
Trooper G.W. Altman investigated the fatal crash at the intersection of Jonesboro Road and Hodges Chapel Road in Harnett County at 6:09 a.m., according to officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troop B District 8 office.
Altman’s investigation revealed that a Dodge Durango operated by an unidentified driver was traveling east on Jonesboro Road and attempted a left turn onto Hodges Chapel Road. As the Durango crossed the center line, initiating the turn, the SUV collided head-on with a motorcycle that was traveling south on Hodges Chapel Road, according to Altman.
The operator of the motorcycle, Billy Shane Byrd, 52, of Benson, was ejected from the bike. Paramedics with Dunn Emergency Services pronounced Byrd dead at the scene.
Reports indicate no alcohol was involved in the crash and Byrd was wearing a helmet compliant with state law.
The Highway Patrol indicates charges are pending as a result of the crash.
What do they mean pending. The man should have been charged already! He turned right in front of the motorcycle. Prayers for the family.
Many people drive poorly by cutting corners not knowing it is unlawful to do so. One must ensure they make wider turns and do not cross the center point of the intersection.
Agree
Charges pending??? If I go out and shoot somebody in the face my charges ain’t gonna be pending, they will be exacted and will know my name I want be unidentified. Same thing.
