Congressman Nickel Announces $1,475,000 For NC State’s Central Crop Research Station In Clayton

CLAYTON – Congressman Wiley Nickel (NC-13) announced $1,475,000 in federal funding to support NC State’s Central Crops Research Station, on September 4. The Congressman was joined by Associate Dean and Director of NC Agricultural Research Service, Steven Lommel, and Kent Burkey of the NC State Plant Science Research Unit.

NC State’s Clayton research station is the main research facility in North Carolina for USDA-ARS corn and soybean research as well as cooperative research to improve small grains program. Facilities and infrastructure funding would be devoted to improving the research capacity of the soybean and grains group through irrigation upgrades and replacement, seed handling building renovation and seed drying storage equipment, input storage facility renovation and improvement, and enhanced grain drying and storage equipment.

During the event, Congressman Nickel also announced a new $5.1 million community project funding request for NC State’s Central Crops Research Station, which he submitted to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration in the FY 2025 Appropriations bill. 

In Congress, Congressman Nickel is a member of the Sustainable Energy & Environment Coalition (SEEC).

  1. Money from the federal government is a string that attaches the state to them and makes them beholding to them. Takes away our state sovereignty and it is a horrible addiction at this point. Give it back.
