Man Says He Was Defrauded Out Of $86,000

BENSON – A 53 year-old Benson man claims he lost at least $86,000 over a period of several years.

In 2020, the victim said he met a woman over the internet and later they met in person. The woman convinced the Benson-area resident to send large sums of money, claiming it was to help her start a new business in Mexico.

Recently, the victim said he learned the woman had not started a business, and instead was using the money for personal expenses and to assist her boyfriend who was in prison.

The incident is under investigation by local authorities.

  1. Is there something in the water or the air here in JoCo? Seems like a lot of people here believe everything somebody tells them and quickly hand over large sums of cash. It just does not make good flipping sense! Everybody needs to educate themselves and stop letting these scammers have your money. If you have more money than you know what to do with, seek out legitimate charities to donate to.

  2. Why is he calling the cops because he messed up…make it make sense to me….where he at🤣🤣

    • its called obtaining property by false pretenses, which is a felony in the state of NC. Just making it make sense….

  3. I don’t feel sorry for these people, used to see it all the time on Dr. Phil. If you’re that stupid, you honestly deserve it.
