A Benson man was seriously injured after being struck by a car. Raleigh Police said officers responded to a collision at 11:07am Monday involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Saddle Seat Drive and Bridle Path Drive.
The pedestrian, John Joseph Schweitzer Jr. of Benson, was seriously injured and transported by Wake County EMS to Wake Medical Center. Police said Schweitzer was attempting to cross over Saddle Seat Drive in an area not marked as a crosswalk.
The driver of a Chrysler passenger car, Cecilio Hernanez Cedillo of Cary struck Schweitzer. According to witness statements, Cedillo never attempted to avoid the collision.
Cedillo was traveling at an estimated 30mph in a 35mph zone at the time of impact, according to an accident report. He was cited by Raleigh Police for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
