Benson Middle School Football: Back-To-Back Conference Champions

By Coaches Lee Pegues and Rhett Saylors | Benson Middle School
As we stood on the field Thursday evening watching the clock wind down, we couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride—not just because we were about to clinch our second straight conference championship, but because of how we got here.
This season wasn’t defined by the scoreboard. It was defined by tough, consistent practices, relentless effort, and a shared commitment to excellence. These young men bought into the process from day one. There were weekly grade checks, hours spent reviewing game film, and high expectations for discipline and accountability—all on top of their dedication to the game itself. Winning back-to-back titles is special, but what makes it truly meaningful is the growth, discipline, and character these players have shown throughout the season and the school year.
When the season began, our goal was simple: get better every rep, every day. We faced adversity, injuries, and tough opponents, but the heart of this team never wavered. Each player embraced his role and trusted the process. They learned that leadership isn’t about who scores the most touchdowns—it’s about who shows up for their teammates when things get hard.
As coaches and teachers, our greatest joy is seeing how football extends beyond the field. It’s in the classroom, where effort and accountability matter just as much as in the end zone. It’s in the way our players greet teachers, support classmates, and represent Benson Middle School with pride.
This championship is more than a trophy. It’s a reflection of our community—parents, teachers, administrators, and fans—who have poured their time and support into these kids. It’s about building a culture of excellence and belonging that will last long after the final whistle.
To our players: thank you for your commitment, toughness, and heart. You’ve made history—but more importantly, you’ve made a statement about what it means to be a Phantom: disciplined, humble, and relentless.
