Benson Police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a hit and run crash with an Amtrak passenger train.
The collision was reported around 2:00AM today (Friday).
Police said the car drove around the railroad crossing gates on Main Street in Benson and was struck by the passing Amtrak train.
The vehicle sustained significant front end damage, but was able to leave the scene.
Benson Police located the vehicle a short time after the incident in a field near Highway 27 and Hodges Chapel Road. They were able to find it by following a trail of debris and coolant that was leaking from the vehicle after the collision. It was unoccupied.
The vehicle was impounded and charges are currently pending as this incident is considered a hit and run. There are no further details available at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
