BENSON – On Monday, Benson Police arrested a man for his alleged involvement in a shooting.

Quaterrius Butler, 25, of Rock Crossing Drive in Dunn, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted breaking and entering, and assault on a female. He was placed in jail under a $75,000 secured bond.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 7:00pm on Friday of last week. Benson Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 500 block of East Benton Street. Upon arrival, they located a 21 year-old male victim — Devon Alford of Benson — with two gunshot wounds to the torso. Officers assisted EMS personnel until the victim was transported for further care.

“This past Friday, a violent assault took place, which resulted in serious injuries to one young man,” said Benson Police Chief Greg Percy. “This incident apparently originated with a verbal/physical dispute between the suspect and a third party and when the victim tried to intervene he sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso.”

“Thankfully, he seems to be on the path to recovery and after numerous hours of investigation, an arrest was made (Monday). We are grateful to everyone who offered information to our investigators and we join them in offering our continued support to the victim of this unnecessary assault.”

  1. Good job to the Benson Police for a job well done. Another dirt bag off the streets. Shame on the low life judge that gave only a $75,000 bond.
