Benson Woman Charged In Fatal U.S. 301 Head-On Collision
BENSON — A Benson woman has been charged in connection with a head-on collision on U.S. 301 that claimed the life of a 73-year-old man on his birthday, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Sharee Latrice McCall, 38, was charged Feb. 4 and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving left of center, unsafe passing and exceeding the posted speed limit.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. Dec. 6, 2025, on U.S. 301 near Hodges Chapel Road, south of Benson and just inside Harnett County.
According to the Highway Patrol, McCall was driving a green Tesla when the vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a red Ram pickup truck.
A passenger in the pickup, identified as Danny Wood of Benson, was killed in the crash. Authorities said Mr. Wood’s son, who was driving the pickup, suffered serious injuries.
Sgt. D.N. Pope said investigators determined the Tesla was traveling approximately 65 mph at the time of the collision, while the pickup truck was traveling about 55 mph.
McCall was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to make her first court appearance March 16 in Harnett County District Court.

Quick question, is Ms Mccall a lawyer in Raleigh? If so, it certainly explains the ridiculously low bond. She took an innocent life that day, that was entirely her evident carelessness. Interesting if so. Rules for she and not for we?
I also want to know why she was only given a misdemeanor death by motor vehicle… anyone else would have gotten an automatic felony, especially when also charged with going left of center and careless and reckless driving!! Our justice system is broken!!!
Thing is, I thought Teslas had autopilot that prevent them from crossing lanes…? Or am I incorrect on that?
That’s not called vehicular homicide? Reckless driving? Two months to finally be charged?
She should be still in Jail. There is no price that should be given for a life. Danny Wood was an incredible man and this other person is walking around like nothing happened. And it was his birthday he was killed on. How can you sleep at night. There should be no price for the death of a individual period.

My question is why are they only charging her with a misdemeanor when every other case such as this it is an automatic felony death by motor vehicle, especially when there is a careless and reckless charge as well!!! That makes me so so angry!!

How was her bond $5,000 when others get NO bond for a similar charge????? We’ll be watching to compare the outcome of her case verses another case. The bonds certainly were not fair in comparison!!!
Also, unsecured bond. Meaning that she did not have to pay anything up front and was allowed to sign herself out on bond. Im sorry, but this world is going to sh*+.
I also never saw a mugshot for her. There was also question of whether she was impaired. She may have sealed her medical records. She is definitely being treated better than most of us would. She is above the law.
