Benton Sawrey was elected Tuesday to the NC State Senate. Mr. Sawrey, a Republican, won the General Election for the District 10 seat by defeating Democratic challenger Dr. Gettys Cohen Jr.
“Johnston County’s voters have given me a tremendous responsibility and I am ready to go to Raleigh and get to work in the North Carolina State Senate. Thank you everyone that played a role in this win — this was truly a community victory,” Mr. Sawrey said Tuesday night.
In unofficial results, Sawrey received 47,887 votes (64%) to 26,792 votes (36%) for Cohen.
Sawrey picked up several key endorsements along the way in the District 10 Senate campaign including Lt. Governor Mark Robinson, District Attorney Susan Doyle, and Sheriff Steve Bizzell.
