SMITHFIELD – In an effort to potentially open the door for development east of Interstate 95, the Town of Smithfield has awarded a contract to design the extension of a town water line, to the intersection of Brogden Road and Whitley Farm Road, on the east side of the interstate.
The Public Works Department recommended approval of a $48,840 contract to design the water line extension. By having a public water source east of I-95 on Brogden Road, it will allow for future growth in that section of the Town’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
After the design work is completed, the town can solicit bids for construction of the water line extension.
The extension is part of the Smithfield Public Utility Department’s 10-year Capital Improvement Plan.
$48K to *DESIGN* a water extension that’s not yet needed?!?! Why not make the potential developers pay — not the taxpayers? This isn’t even in the town limits!!! We need DOGE here in JoCo! #MAGA
