Improvements coming under new $4.7 million contract
A 7.5-mile segment of U.S. 70 in the Selma-Smithfield area will be resurfaced, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $4.7 million contract in May.
S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson will mill, resurface and stripe both directions of the highway between the Neuse River in Johnston County and the Wayne County line. The crews also will replace drainage structures in the median and along the shoulder.
The contractor may begin after July 1 and has until the fall of 2020 to complete the improvements.
Drivers should expect occasional daytime lane closures during the road construction. However, no lanes on U.S. 70 will be reduced on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 1 through Sept. 30. The repaving on the exit and entrance ramps will be done at night.
