SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Town Council awarded bids recently for two new police department vehicles.
A $44,549 bid was awarded to Performance Automotive for the purchase of a 2023 Dodge Durango SUV. A separate bid of $35,113 was awarded to Ilderton Dodge for the purchase of a 2023 Dodge Charger.
The Police Department has budgeted $110,500 for new police vehicles this fiscal year. The plan was to purchase two new Ford Explorers but those vehicles are not available, and there is no time frame when they would be available, Chief Pete Hedrick said in a staff report to the council.
Go to your police impound lot and get McLeod’s “police car”. He won’t need it and it’s a lot cheaper. (some will take this as fact, not humor).
