Bill Stovall Sworn In As Johnston County Commissioner

SMITHFIELD – Following this morning’s Johnston County Board of Commissioners meeting, Bill Stovall was sworn in during a special ceremony as the newest Johnston County Commissioner to represent district six. Mr. Stovall was accompanied by his wife Martha and his son Jonathan as he took the oath of office at the Johnston County Courthouse in downtown Smithfield.

A resident of the Wilson’s Mills township, Mr. Stovall is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Mr. Stovall has held various executive leadership positions within the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Corrections.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Stovall is committed to community service and has been actively involved in local 4-H clubs and youth programs for over two decades. He and his son Jonathan are certified shooting instructors, exemplifying their dedication to youth development.

“I am honored to serve the residents of Johnston County as their new Commissioner for district six,” said Mr. Stovall. “My upbringing on a family farm instilled in me the values of hard work, integrity, and community service, and I am committed to applying these principles to my new role.”

Mr. Stovall fills the vacant seat of one of the longest serving Johnston County Commissioners, Tony Braswell, who passed away in March. Mr. Stovall won the Republican nomination for the district six seat and has no opposition in the November general election. The Board appointed Mr. Stovall to fill Mr. Braswell’s seat until his term officially begins in December.
