Body Of Missing Sampson County Woman Located

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday (today), a body located Monday, August 2nd in the area of Boykin Bridge Road were the remains of a missing woman. Kiara Renee Wiggins of Roseboro had been reported missing by her family on June 18, 2021.

The remains were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification. Authorities are awaiting additional reports from the medical examiner to determine how Kiara died.

After her disappearance, detectives said Kiara’s husband was wanted for questioning in the case. Warrants were obtained for Carl Wiggins for larceny and possession of a stolen motor vehicle for the theft of an SUV in Bladen County.

On June 23rd, Mr. Wiggins led Four Oaks Police and other law enforcement officers on a three county chase before ending on I-40 in Wake County. He reportedly has refused to cooperate with investigators or answer questions about his wife’s disappearance.

Sampson County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Marcus Smith said investigators plan to meet with the District Attorney’s Office on Monday, August 9th to compare their findings and discuss the case further. Following the meeting, additional information is expected to be released.

“We understand the devastation this death has brought to Kiara’s family and friends, but we know our community will respect and provide the support they need throughout the journey ahead,” stated Lt. Smith.
