Both Drivers Cited In Crash That Injures 4
Four people were sent to the hospital following a two car accident Wednesday afternoon on Market Street at Front Street in Downtown Smithfield.
Smithfield Police and Johnston County EMS responded to the 5:41pm collision.
According to an accident report, Pearnell Spruill Lane of Pikeville was traveling eastbound on Market Street in a 2014 Chevy and was attempting to make a left turn onto N. Front Street but pulled into the path of a 2005 Jeep SUV traveling westbound that was driven by Jarrett Trequan Crandle of Wilson.
The vehicles collided nearly head on. A witness told police Crandle had the green light.
Both drivers, along with two teenage passengers in the Jeep, were transported to Johnston Medical Center in Smithfield for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Lane was cited for an unsafe movement violation. Crandle was cited for driving on a revoked license. Damage to the Chevy was placed at $7,000. The Jeep sustained $3,000 in damages. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
