Burglars cut a hole in a fence to gain entry into the NC Department of Transportation Maintenance Yard on US 70 between Smithfield and Wilson’s Mills last week. The break-in was discovered around 7:00am last Wednesday by employees arriving at work.
After entering the property through the rear fence, the suspects stole the tires and wheels off a DOT-owned Ford F-250 work truck. Several other items were taken including chainsaws, leaf blowers, and weed eaters.
Damage to the fence was estimated at $2,000.
