An arrest has been made in a burglary in rural Wayne County last year. Last August, a man was inside his home when he noticed a flashlight shining behind his house. He went to investigate and found a burglar inside an office area behind his house. When the intruder saw the homeowner, he dropped a bag containing the victims property and fled.
The homeowner attempted to go after the suspect but the burglar told him he had a knife and to stay away. The intruder fled in a Chevy pickup but the victim was able to give officers a license plate number. Wayne County deputies also recovered the suspects hat he dropped while running.
This week, deputies arrested 59 year-old Sammy Edward Floyd, Jr., of Fayetteville. He was in the Cumberland County Jail at the time he was formally charged. He was already facing unrelated charges in Cumberland County for breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen property.
