SMITHFIELD – Saturday night, the Town of Smithfield was left in the dark due to a major power outage. While the lights were out, numerous businesses were forced to close.
When power was restored, employees returned to Walgreens at 424 N. Brightleaf Boulevard and discovered a break-in.
Smithfield Police said while power was out the suspects forcibly entered the business, taking advantage of the darkness and non-functioning security cameras.
No narcotics or prescriptions were stolen.
Walgreens is conducting an inventory to determine exactly what was taken.
Anyone with information about the break-in, believed to have occurred around 11:24pm Saturday, is urged to contact the Smithfield Police Department.
