Burglary Suspect Shot By Homeowner

CLAYTON – A home invasion suspect was shot Thursday morning after reportedly breaking into a home. At 12:23am Thursday, Clayton Police responded to 2712 Brigadoon Drive to a reported home invasion in progress.

Residents of the home told police they heard a loud noise coming from the back door area and observed an unknown individual inside the home. The resident grabbed a handgun and engaged the suspects.

Shots were exchanged between the homeowner and the suspects and one of the suspects was struck before fleeing the residence. Clayton Detectives believe three suspects were involved and entered the home.

Alexis Segura-Prieto, age 19, of Raleigh was found in the yard with a single gunshot wound. He was treated by Johnston County EMS and transported to WakeMed in Raleigh.

Clayton Police said Segura-Prieto is one of the suspects who entered the home. Segura-Prieto is currently being charged with first degree burglary, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Investigators are working to identify the two other suspects. Authorities do not believe this was a random incident but are still working to determine a motive.
