Al Byrd of Clayton was sworn in to the Johnston County Board of Education on Tuesday, March 9 at the Johnston County Public Schools Evander Simpson Building in Smithfield.
Byrd was joined at the ceremony by a few members of his family. Johnston County Clerk of Court Michelle Ball officiated the swearing in.
“I’m thankful to the Board of Education for this opportunity to serve Johnston County. It’s always a great opportunity when you’ve been chosen to do something,” said Byrd. “This is such a wonderful opportunity for me to be involved in a county that I truly love and appreciate.”
Byrd fills the vacant seat of Tracie Zukokwsi on the Board of Education, which is set to expire in 2022. The specific schools he is assigned to serve are Archer Lodge Middle, Cooper Academy, Corinth Holders High, East Clayton Elementary, River Dell Elementary, Riverwood Elementary, and Riverwood Middle.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to work alongside Mr. Byrd,” said Board of Education Chairman Todd Sutton. “He has a rich history in this county, and I believe he will serve our students and families well.”
