Smithfield Police are investigating a car break-in reported Sunday night at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center (SRAC) on Booker Dairy Road.
The break-in was discovered just after 7:00pm.
Police tell WTSB News a 23 year-old man had parked his vehicle near the SRAC to go walking at Smithfield Community Park. While on a walking trail someone reportedly took $75 worth of items from his vehicle.
The victim said he left his car doors unlocked.
Captain R. Sheppard said individuals should keep their cars locked at all times and valuables out of sight. Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area of the SRAC or Community Park is asked to contact Smithfield Police at 919-934-2121 or the Smithfield Police Tip Line at 919-989-8835.
