Car Collides With Tractor-Trailer

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Emergency crews responded to a serious crash involving a passenger car and a tractor-trailer around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

The collision occurred on Brogden Road, about 9 miles east of Smithfield, just east of the intersection with Grabtown Road.

Authorities said the passenger car was traveling westbound when it crossed the centerline and struck the trailer wheels of an eastbound tractor-trailer.

The truck driver said he saw the car enter his lane and steered off the roadway into a shallow ditch but was unable to avoid the collision.

Unconfirmed reports indicate two adults and two children were in the car. All four were transported to a hospital by Johnston County EMS with injuries that were not immediately known.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Brogden Fire Department assisted with traffic control until the roadway was reopened.
