Troopers: Speed, Alcohol Factors In Fatal Rollover Accident

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – A Raleigh man died after a single-vehicle rollover crash early Friday morning on Interstate 42 (former U.S. 70 Bypass) in Johnston County.

The crash occurred around 2:23 a.m. near the Wake County line, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 2008 Ford Ranger traveling west ran off the road to the right, then overcorrected, crossed off the roadway to the left and overturned multiple times before coming to rest upright in the roadway.

Emergency crews arrived to find two men lying in the road after being ejected from the vehicle.

The passenger, identified as Jose Alberto Francisco-Perez, 40, of Raleigh, was taken to Wake Medical Center in Raleigh where he later died from his injuries, officials said.

The driver, Luis Angel Chaidez Gonzalez, 30, of Raleigh, was also transported to the Wake Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said speed and alcohol impairment were contributing factors in the crash, and neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Gonzalez was later arrested and charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, no operator’s license, careless and reckless driving, an open container violation and failure to wear a seat belt.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact Sgt. Nathan White with North Carolina State Highway Patrol at 919-934-2186 or 919-733-3861.

  1. can you report if they were illegal or not? as you already know, illegal immigration is a huge problem right now.

    • Putting everything else aside, to me the tragedy is that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. There are still too many highway deaths because so many people don’t realize that when your vehicle is traveling 70 mph and suddenly stops, unless you are strapped in, your body continues traveling at 70 mph right through the windshield until it hits something to make it stop. It almost always results in death by blunt force trauma.

  2. It is a civil misdemeanor .
You know what is not a civil misdemeanor – the Epstein files and the acts committed against those children and teenagers. Bombing a school in Iran -oops – wrong target – just overlook that mistake. Party of the children right? Nope just the white ones.

A 34 count felon as president. Laws need to be changed to make sure that never happens again.
But worry about the distractions they want you to worry about….

  3. Of course make it about the President!
That’s what most of you woke people do!
A man died because someone was drinking and driving! That’s what the story is about!

  4. Leaving all the other comments aside, to me the biggest tragedy is that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt. So many people still don’t realize (or believe) that if your vehicle is going 70 mph and suddenly stops, your body continues traveling at 70 mph right through the windshield until it hits something and stops, almost always resulting in death by blunt force trauma. Air bags only soften the blow of hitting your head on the steering wheel or dashboard – they do not protect you from being ejected from the vehicle. Please buckle up!
