Car Crashes Into US 301 Construction Zone

FOUR OAKS – A motorist was seriously injured in a collision with an excavator in a highway construction zone. The accident was reported Thursday morning on US 301 at Forest Hills Drive, north of Four Oaks.

US 301 was closed in both directions April 2 so that NCDOT contractors can replace a culvert under the highway. No construction work was taking place today due to the weather.

Around 10:00am, a teen driver operating a white Toyota passenger car traveled past a Road Closed sign into the construction zone colliding with the end of a parked excavator. The driver was trapped inside the car.

A nearby resident heard the collision and called 911.

Four Oaks Fire personnel helped remove the driver from the wreckage. Johnston County EMS transported the victim to WakeMed with serious injuries.

Four Oaks Police are investigating the crash.

  1. I’m starting to wonder what they teach kids in school nowadays since this genius couldn’t read the closed road sign.

  2. To not see all those warning signs and heavy equipment in the road, that must have been an interesting cell phone distraction going on….

    • It doesn’t matter if someone saw the sign or not. If something bad happens the last thing you need to do is critize them. If this was your kid I doubt you would criticize them while in the hospital

  3. That’s your response to something like this? You don’t know what actually happened while she was driving, this 16 year old girl may have serious damage and all you can say is that she is dumb.
