Career Educator Jeff Sullivan Files For Johnston County School Board

CLAYTON – Retired educator Jeff Sullivan of Clayton has filed as a candidate for the District 7 seat on the Johnston County Board of Education. Sullivan was joined at the Johnston County Board of Elections Office by his wife, Stacey, and two of his three daughters.

“I am excited about the opportunity to once again serve the Johnston County Public School system. As a Johnston County resident for over three decades, I have seen firsthand how the county has grown and how that has impacted schools across the district. I believe that experience in the school system will enable me to make decisions that first consider what is best for students.”

Sullivan retired in 2022 after a 32 year career in JCPS. During his tenure, Sullivan served as an assistant principal, teacher, coach, and Exceptional Children program specialist.

“I have had the unique experience of working at the elementary, middle and high school levels, and it has been my pleasure to serve students, families, and communities in Smithfield, Selma, Benson, Cleveland and Clayton. Given that I have worked in various school settings, in different communities, and at the school and central office, I have a true systems’ perspective on the challenges and opportunities that we face in our school system.”

“My leadership experience, commitment to serve, and my knowledge of school processes and policies will guide me to make decisions in students’ best interests. As someone who has worked in schools before, during, and after the pandemic, I have a real understanding of security protocols, and I feel it is important we provide the resources to support students and school staff to provide a safe and positive learning environment. Finally, I believe the infighting and chaotic nature that has plagued this board has been a detriment to the students and employees who are working so hard to improve our district collectively. We need people on the Board of Education who support public education and keep their focus on what is best for students, schools, and employees.”

Sullivan graduated from Fayetteville State University with a Master in School Administration, graduated from Welch College with a Bachelor of Arts. Sullivan continues to serve JCPS students as a part-time Driver’s Education instructor and Security Manager for Staff 1 Security event staff company.
