JOHNSTON COUNTY – A caregiver is facing involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of a special needs adult.
Rogers Lee Inge, age 55, of Warrenton, NC called Johnston County 911 around 4:43pm Tuesday. Inge reportedly told a dispatcher he was responsible for the death of an individual who was in his vehicle.
The 911 dispatcher was able to get Mr. Inge to stop driving and pull over at the Cleveland Fire Department at 9039 Cleveland Road, Clayton so help could be sent to his location.
Deputies, EMS and fire personnel responded and determined 22 year-old Dotarious Batts was deceased in the vehicle.
Sheriff’s Major Jeff Caldwell said Mr. Inge was a full-time caregiver for Batts, also of Warrenton, NC. Mr. Batts was identified as a special needs adult who could not care for himself.
Inge reportedly told authorities he was employed as a full-time care giver for Mr. Batts through Universal Health Care. Inge also said he was also a janitor at Cleveland High School.
Inge stated he arrived at Cleveland High School at approximately 8:00am Tuesday with Mr. Batt’s in his vehicle. Mr. Inge stated he left Batts in his car with the windows rolled up and the engine off.
Inge stated he checked on Mr. Batts at approximately 10:00 am and he was fine. He did not return to his vehicle again, until approximately 4:17pm, at which time he found Mr. Batts deceased.
Mr. Inge reprotedly left the school and called 911 and then pulled over at the fire department.
As a result of the investigation, detectives arrested Mr. Inge charging him with involuntary manslaughter. He was placed under a $35,000 secure bond.
Involuntary manslaughter??? How about flat out charge him with Manslaughter!! He knew what he was doing leaving him in the car. SMDH
A 35,000 bond? He should not have a bond. This is murder folks. ” Windows up and vehicle off”. He clearly meant to kill him. He has to have some kind of sense, to hold the occupations that was mentioned. “Make it make sense”
this is a perfect example of people not being able to live accordingly because money is so tight for EVERYONE.
Yes everyone’s money is tight right now, BUT that does not override common sense. “IF” he must have worked that day, schools are out right now. He should have taken Mr. Batts inside with him while he cleaned. I’m sure Mr. Batts might have even helped him out.
What a piece of sh*t!
No words…..
Big money grab I guess. Double your income for a day.
Involuntary is BS, he knew what he was doing and planned it. You can’t
tell me that whiles he’s standing around with a broom in his hand, in an air conditioned building, he didn’t realize the risk.
Call in sick you have plenty of reasons to miss work for the school system, like comp time, sick days, etc.
I don’t get it as why would he do something like that? I just do not understand, and I wish someone out there would and could explain this to me. Please, give me something to make sense of it.
That explains all of your other post. You just babble.
Horrible but why didn’t Mr. Batts get out of the car? Was he physically disabled?
Omg read the article fully before commenting 🙄
Don’t worry the Johnston county grand jury will up the charges, with that Johnston county with that D A, trust me,
