Carlie C’s IGA Announces Closure Of One Location

DUNN – Carlie C’s, the largest family-owned IGA grocery store chain in North and South Carolina, has announced the closure of its College Street store, located at 815 College Street in Clinton. The decision comes after careful consideration and extensive deliberation, as the lease for the location has reached its expiration, the owners said in a news release.

The College Street store has been an integral part of the community, serving customers for seven years since it was converted from Piggy Wiggly to Carlie C’s.

“Carlie C’s would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the loyal customers and dedicated employees who have been a part of this journey. We want to assure our customers and employees that this decision was not taken lightly, and it is in no way a reflection of the exceptional dedication and hard work of our staff at the College Street location.”

“One of the core values at Carlie C’s is our commitment to our employees. We are pleased to announce that all employees from the College Street store will be retained within the Carlie C’s family. We are actively working to place each team member in other locations within our chain, ensuring that they continue to provide exceptional service to our customers.”

“Carlie C’s remains dedicated to serving the communities of North and South Carolina with the same level of commitment and quality that we have upheld for decades. Our other locations will continue to offer the finest selection of products, great savings, and outstanding customer service,” according to the press release.

The grocery store chain started in 1961 in southern Johnston County. Carlie C’s now has more than 30 locations.

  1. Wanna bet the owner(s) of the building jacked rents up because they got greedy. Sad to see this store close and now a place that helped the community is gone. Greed is destroying a lot as of late.

    • Or maybe he/she raised the rent because the town raised the property value and he/she now has to pay higher property tax…….or maybe the amount of business decreased due to competition or the ridiculous rise in grocery prices.

      • Or maybe this is the way capitalism is supposed to work — the owner can charge whatever they want… the free market either accepts it or doesn’t. The alternative is living is a SOCIALST “paradise” where the government sets prices instead of the market.

        • Well that is possible , of course, but I doubt a property owner would raise it so high as to have the property sit empty. Perhaps they have another tenant. Maybe they don’t; I just hate it when socialists cry about greedy owners. They can’t see that there maybe be other causes why Carlie c’s didn’t renew the lease and I was trying to show them that there could be many other reasons.

      • Raised property value – Highly doubt that. So far doing a quick google search for Clinton property values stayed the same. Clinton aka Sampson county has some of the lowest property tax in the state. Orange county has the highest.

Now your second part about business decreased I can see. People just don’t have that extra money to spend. Also your statement on rising food prices is very valid. That I can agree with.

  2. There’s three Carlie C’s in Clinton. The one closing is right around the corner from a larger one with a bakery, etc. Seems to make sense to consolidate operations. Besides, word is out that they are going to get a Target at that location.
