Caught On Camera: Owner Abandons Wrecked Car Then Reports It Stolen, JCSO Says

FOUR OAKS – Multiple charges have been filed against a Four Oaks man who allegedly wrecked his car, abandoned the vehicle in a business parking lot, then reported it stolen.
Around midnight March 2, deputies responded to the 400 block of Spring Lake Road after David Lee O’Neal, of the address, reported his black Volvo passenger car had been stolen from the driveway. O’Neal said he last saw his car around 7:00pm. When he went outside around midnight he claimed it was missing.
Officers later found the wrecked Volvo a short distance away, in the parking lot of Ashley Furniture on Brewer Road. Deputies said they reviewed security footage from Ashley Furniture that allegedly captured O’Neal abandoning his wrecked car in the parking lot then walking away.
O’Neal was arrested March 6 and charged with filing a false police report, resisting a public officer, driving on a revoked license, reckless driving, possession of stolen property, and failure to report an accident. He was released on a $10,000 bond pending trial.
