There was a surprise presentation at Monday’s Johnston County Commissioners meeting.

Commissioner Chairman Tony Braswell of Pine Level was presented with a Vietnam Veteran’s Lapel Pin for his service in Vietnam.

Braswell was unable to attend a special ceremony to receive the pin on May 7th in Fayetteville, so Colonel Rudy Baker, President of the Johnston County Veterans Advisory Board and Robert Boyette, Director of the Johnston County Veterans Administration decided to make the presentation to Braswell at the commissioners meeting.

Chairman Braswell served in US Army between 1964 and 1967 and spent 11 months and 23 days in Vietnam.

The commemoration Braswell received is given to living US military veterans who served during the Vietnam War period and were on active duty at any time between Nov. 1955 to May 1975.
