Child Abuse, Animal Cruelty Charges Stem From Kenly Bust

KENLY – A probation absconder was arrested during a narcotics search warrant in the Kenly city limits. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office STAR Team, assisted by Kenly Police, executed the search warrant August 22 on West Fourth Street.

Montreal Darby Parks, age 36, of Kenly and two young children were reportedly located inside the residence.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said they found multiple bags of suspected crack cocaine and opioid pills within reach of the children. The cocaine had a combined weight of just over 30 grams, authorities said. A gun was also located.

Officers said there were six pit bull dogs on chains in the yard. All the dogs were malnourished. They were turned over to Johnston County Animal Services.

The children were placed in the custody of a relative.

Parks was arrested on 20 criminal charges including three counts of trafficking cocaine, two counts of child abuse, six counts of cruelty to animals, and single counts of felony probation violation, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a controlled substance.

Parks was placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $1,076,000 secured bond.
