CLAYTON – A mother and her three school-aged children were sent to Wake Med around 8 o’clock Wednesday morning, as a result of a near head-on collision with a pickup truck on Smith Road in Johnston County.

The teenage pickup truck driver and his sister were on the way to school when, according to authorities, he drove left of center and collided with the minivan.

One child was ejected from the van as it spun out of control following the impact. None of the 3 children were reportedly restrained.

Both drivers were charged in the accident. The pickup driver for driving left of center and the van driver for multiple seat belt violations.

  1. Thank God no one was seriously injured. That is the most important thing. I wonder what the driver was doing at the time he went left of center? I also wonder why no one in the van was in seat belts. I think the drivers of both vehicles should have more charges filed but I also feel the child protection agency needs to be contacted over this as I feel the driver should be charged with child neglect.
