The week of September 17th through 23rd has been proclaimed as Child Passenger Safety Week in Johnston County.
Johnston County Commissioners adopted a resolution earlier this month highlighting the importance of parents and caregivers to keep our children safe. Every year thousands of children are killed or injured in traffic accidents. For children 3 and older, it is the leading cause of death.
All 50 states including North Carolina have laws requiring the use of child safety seats and seat belts. Unfortunately, an estimated 3 out of every 4 child safety seats are not properly installed.
Commissioners said in their proclamation they are working closely with community partners and safety advocates to help reduce the number of young lives lost on our roadways. Free child safety seat inspection stations will be set up throughout the week.
