Child Shot While Playing In Yard, JCSO Says

FOUR OAKS – A 7 year-old child is recovering from serious injuries after being shot. It happened on Thanksgiving Day, on Parker Road near Parkertown Road, south of Four Oaks.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a family had gathered for Thanksgiving and around 4:30pm Thursday several adults and children were outside in the yard playing together.

An adult reported hearing a “whizzing” sound go past them. Moments later a young child was shot in the leg. The 7 year-old was rushed to the hospital for treatment of a serious but non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Deputies also determined a house on Parker Road had been struck by gunfire, but there were no additional injuries.

On Monday, investigators said someone target practicing nearby fired the shots that struck the child and the home.

The incident remains under investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. People need to do better than that when shooting targets. You need to know exactly where that bullet is going when it leaves the barrel and make da*n sure if it misses that there’s no chance it will hit on or around a residential area. This is exactly the kind of thing that gives politicians fuel to enact stiffer rules and regulations and with good cause if people are going to be careless and reckless. If you can’t be responsible, do the responsible ones a favor and give it up before you mess it up for everyone and/or you hurt or kill someone.

    • 100% I have people that hunt in the back of my house in the woods, there’s been so many times that I worry about stray bullets striking a home or God forbid a person.

  2. Classic JoCo … also, “stiffer rules and regulations” — like that’s a bad thing? There are literally no rules now, you could go buy hundreds of guns if you like. I think everyone on parker road and parkertown road should stock up! I also love the irony of posting as “Chuck Connors” the “Rifleman” LOL … I wonder how many people who live on parker road have a Punisher skull, Molon labe, or assault rifle sticker on their trucks — I’d bet it’s pretty high

    • Chuck is spot on…people do need to be safer and know what’s beyond their target, but to curtail the rights of everyone to address the carelessness of a few is absurd. I hear gun fire every weekend. This is the first article I’ve seen like this in 10 years.

Want tighter regulations that will save the lives of children? Ban abortion and have stricter laws on who can drive. More kids are murdered before they’re even born, and injured by car accidents than guns; and you can fact check me on that at childstats dot gov.

  3. Oliver’s Grove Rd. residents hear shooting often from over that way. No wonder my dog is scared to death – in the house! She needs medication before the shooting starts!

    • Have you tried a Thunder shirt for your dog? They’re good for fireworks gunfire Etc I know eBay Marketplace has a bunch for maybe $10 I hate that for your dog and all the other animals that are petrified to this nonsense
