Child Shot While Playing In Yard, JCSO Says

FOUR OAKS – A 7 year-old child is recovering from serious injuries after being shot. It happened on Thanksgiving Day, on Parker Road near Parkertown Road, south of Four Oaks.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a family had gathered for Thanksgiving and around 4:30pm Thursday several adults and children were outside in the yard playing together.

An adult reported hearing a “whizzing” sound go past them. Moments later a young child was shot in the leg. The 7 year-old was rushed to the hospital for treatment of a serious but non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Deputies also determined a house on Parker Road had been struck by gunfire, but there were no additional injuries.

On Monday, investigators said someone target practicing nearby fired the shots that struck the child and the home.

The incident remains under investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

  1. People need to do better than that when shooting targets. You need to know exactly where that bullet is going when it leaves the barrel and make da*n sure if it misses that there’s no chance it will hit on or around a residential area. This is exactly the kind of thing that gives politicians fuel to enact stiffer rules and regulations and with good cause if people are going to be careless and reckless. If you can’t be responsible, do the responsible ones a favor and give it up before you mess it up for everyone and/or you hurt or kill someone.
