Driver Fleeing From Police Causes Head-On Collision

SELMA – A wanted person fleeing from police caused a serious head-on collision Sunday afternoon on US Highway 70 near Buffalo Road.
Around 5:30pm Sunday, a license plate reader camera alerted Selma Police a tan Buick, linked to a man with outstanding warrants, was in their city limits. Selma Police attempted a traffic stop near Buffalo Road but the driver refused to stop. The chase continued down Buffalo Road. At the intersection of US 70, the suspect traveled the wrong way on the off-ramp, then began speeding westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Selma Police immediately discontinued the chase once the driver began traveling the wrong direction. However, within seconds, the driver slammed head-on into another car.

Selma Police were nearby and responded. The suspect driver was attempting to exit the wrecked vehicle while armed with a box cutter. The suspect was disarmed and detained. During the process, a Selma police officer was injured. The suspect driver and officer were both transported to the hospital.
Selma Fire extricated a female passenger pinned in the front passenger seat of the tan Buick. She was transported to Wake Med with serious injuries.

The innocent driver, whose car was knocked over a guardrail, was extricated from their vehicle before being rushed by Johnston County EMS to WakeMed with life threatening injuries.
Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of US 70 near Buffalo Road was closed for approximately two hours.

The name of the suspect driver, or the others involved in the crash, has not been released by the Highway Patrol.
A day earlier, Saturday morning, the same suspect reportedly fled from police officers in the county after they tried to stop the same car. The chase was called off when the suspect began traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-42 (formerly the US 70 Bypass) near Clayton.

Needs prison time, 5 years
Too bad he made it.
This driver needs to be neutralized for killing a gentleman.
I didn’t read were someone was killed. Who died that’s very important, because we don’t want false information out there. I’m just saying. We can’t be loud and wrong.
The gentleman did indeed pass. And his wife super distraught and heartbroken.
The gentleman lived in Wilson’s Mills and died that evening. The scum has a criminal history of over 200 crimes!

Prayers for all the innocent people involved in this wreck. Prayers for the police officer injured as well. Selma Police did a fine job on this call and made the right call to call off the pursuit. Regardless this animal that should be dead, did not give a hoot who he could have killed. The animal needs to be put away for life.
We will just skim over a license plate reading camera alerting police. That doesn’t infringe on rights at all.
Those cameras help catch criminals. Such as, kidnappers, stolen vehicles and people with warrants. They help protect the public. So infringe on my rights all you want to. If it keeps me safe I have no problem with it.
Having a vehicle registered for use on the road is not a right. License plate readers ignore all plates that don’t have an NCIC hit (the plate has to be entered as part of a legitimate wanted/stolen entry by law enforcement). If you are worried about it, don’t commit a crime and you won’t have ever show up on NCIC.
Life in prison would be too nice for this person!
Who is he ? why hasn’t his name been mentioned?
I was driving towards the exit ramp that he came into the wrong way of traffic on… he almost hit me and when I saw emergency vehicles a few minutes later after having pulled over to report him and work through a panic attack, I feared the worst for other people that were behind me on the road. I’m pregnant so he almost hurt me and my unborn child by veering into my lane in the wrong direction…. I’m praying for the man’s family that this monster killed and that karma comes back to haunt him for his lack of care about other peoples’ lives 😢 I can still see him and his passenger clearly enough to give a description because of how scary that situation was…
He was high on drugs!
