Choices Pregnancy Center Hosts Inaugural “Choices For Life 5K,” Raises Over $10,000

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The Choices Pregnancy Center held its inaugural “Choices for Life 5K” in Smithfield, drawing 70 participants and raising more than $10,000 to support local women and families.

The event, held on March 21st at Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, brought together runners, walkers, and supporters from across the community to raise both funds and awareness for the center’s services.

“We were incredibly encouraged by the turnout and the support from our community,” said Grace Schupp, Development and Marketing Director for Choices Pregnancy Center. “It was a beautiful day, and everything went very smoothly. More importantly, it helped shine a light on the resources available to women and families right here in Johnston County.”

Proceeds from the race will go toward providing free and confidential services, including pregnancy testing and ultrasounds, as well as material support for mothers and their babies. Funds also help cover essential items such as car seats, safe sleep spaces, diapers, formula, and other necessities during a child’s first two years of life.

According to Schupp, the financial support translates directly into tangible assistance for families navigating unplanned pregnancies.

“These funds allow us to meet real, everyday needs,” she said. “Whether it’s providing a safe place for a baby to sleep or helping a mom with diapers and formula, it all adds up to meaningful support during a critical time.”

In addition to fundraising, the event aimed to increase awareness of the center’s mission to offer compassionate, non-judgmental care to those facing pregnancy decisions or seeking support after an abortion.

Due to the success of the event, the Choices for Life 5K is expected to become an annual fundraiser for the organization.

The Choices Pregnancy Center, located in Smithfield, serves women and families throughout Johnston County by providing education, resources, and ongoing support.
