Class Of 2016 Inspires Elementary Students With ‘Senior Walk’

North Johnston High School seniors walked the halls of their former elementary schools to inspire younger students to graduate.

Wearing their caps and gowns, seniors proudly walked through the halls at Glendale-Kenly and Micro-Pine Level elementary schools as current elementary school students filled the halls and cheered them on Friday.

“We were high-fiving people and clapping, and I think it was really exciting for seniors to be back where they went to elementary school,” said Laney Stewart, a fourth grade student at Micro-Pine Level Elementary.

The majority of the students who are graduating from North Johnston High School previously attended either Glendale-Kenly or Micro-Pine Level Elementary School.

Teachers, administrators, and school staff filled the halls to congratulate and show respect for their former students.

“I’m extremely proud of each of these graduates. I love them all, ” said Karen Parker, media coordinator at Micro-Pine Level. Parker formerly taught kindergarten at the school for 16 years. “I can remember when they first walked into kindergarten and the looks on their faces. It matched the excitement I saw today.”

Graduating senior Spencer Griswold said he felt proud to see the excitement in the younger children’s faces.

“It was exciting to see all of the little kids,” said Griswold. “It was kind of emotional walking through, seeing where I used to be compared to where I am now.”

Friday’s Senior Walk marked the second in Johnston County this year. Last week seniors from South Johnston High visited Benson, Four Oaks, and Meadow elementary schools.
