GREENSBORO, N.C. — Members of the Clayton High School chapter of North Carolina DECA joined more than 6,000 high school students studying business, finance, hospitality and marketing at the annual North Carolina DECA Career Development Conference held Feb. 26–28 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.

Several Clayton High students received recognition for individual achievement at the state level.

Laila Badger earned a high roleplay score in the Marketing Communication Series, while Nampratai Poonsastra received a high roleplay score in Principles of Business Management and Administration.

Clayton High DECA member Jarron Jordan was also elected Coastal Region vice president of the North Carolina DECA Executive Officer Team.

Competition finalists from the state conference will advance to international competition at the DECA International Career Development Conference scheduled for April 25–28 in Atlanta.

Clayton High School DECA has a membership of 114 students. The chapter’s advisors are Susan Perdue and Rocio Cullins.

As part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s competitive events are aligned with national curriculum standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. The events help prepare students to be college and career ready upon graduation.

More than 400 business professionals evaluated students’ performance during the conference through role-plays, case studies and prepared presentations.

“We are incredibly proud of our students, and it’s exciting to see their hard work and dedication lead to this achievement,” advisor Susan Perdue said.
