CLAYTON– Tax season is in full swing, and for many, it’s a race against the clock to file on time. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), nearly 30% of Americans wait until the final few weeks before the deadline to file their taxes. For those still scrambling to get their paperwork together, Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library is here to help.
With the tax filing deadline on Tuesday, April 15, the library is a valuable resource for residents who may need assistance with gathering documents or finding the right forms to complete their taxes.
“We know taxes can be overwhelming for many, and while we don’t fill out forms for people, we’re here to share the information that can guide them in the right direction,” said Library Manager Melissa Poole. “We aim to help people at any stage in the process. Our team is here to make sure they have the resources they need to move forward.”

The library offers a range of services to assist with tax preparation, including:
· Free Federal 1040 and 1040-SR forms and booklets
· Public computer access to the IRS or North Carolina Department of Revenue (NCDOR) websites, including online filing
· Tax form printing and document scanning/emailing
“We take privacy very seriously,” Poole continued. “Tax documents can contain sensitive personal information, so we have measures in place to make certain that all materials are handled securely. Our staff is trained to guide residents while making sure their privacy is protected at every step.”
